The vocational training sector is under increasing pressure to make changes to the way learning and teaching is conducted in response to technology advances. Globally, education institutions and policy makers are implementing change driven by an awareness of massive and ongoing social, economic and technological change. While approaches vary most agree that sound and well-considered learning and teaching practice must be the primary driver for the introduction of learning technology solutions.
The 21 century learning and teaching practice outlined in this paper is a summary description: a catalyst for discussion and engagement within a community of practice. It is expected that faculty will have differing approaches informed by their subject matter, learners and environment. These differences are to be celebrated. The 21 century learning and teaching practice outlined here can accomodate a variety of approaches and activities while guiding teachers towards good practice.
